Summer is here, but of course this year feels like the most scorching one of your existence. You are not alone, and there are things you can do about it! Even better: you don’t have to break the bank trying to beat the heat.
Take for instance this cool trick (pun intended) we found on Reddit. By rolling down one of your front windows and then opening and closing the opposite side door a few times, you can drastically reduce the temperature inside your car! Nothing is worse than getting into an oven-on-wheels. With this trick, some users reported seeing the temperature drop more than 14 degrees!
But what about your bedroom where you need relief from the heat the most? Lifehacker published a super-affordable way to make your own air conditioner! All you need is a fan, a few icepacks, and a Styrofoam cooler. With a few properly placed holes in the Styrofoam, you can have a simple solution to beating the heat up and running in to time!
If you have a ceiling fan, a small adjustment might make all the difference! As Energy Star points out, having your ceiling fan rotate in a counterclockwise direction will force a cool breeze down towards you. Rotating in this way leaves the hot air to collect up near the ceilings, and it pushes the cool air down towards the living area. Make sure this is the way your ceiling fans are set to work! Rotating clockwise is the winter setting for ceiling fans, as it is designed to force hot air collecting at the ceiling downwards to heat the living area.
Last but not least, you can always… DRINK MORE WATER! This seems so obvious, but a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that nearly half of Americans are not drinking enough water! Your body is almost 70% water, and it is safe to say that you need it.
