If you are reading this blog the chances are you know that Type 2 Diabetes is affecting and will affect millions of Americans. Here are a few useful things to know, taken from the website of the American Diabetes Association. Whether or not you have Diabetes we encourage you to check out this site full of facts and tips to stay healthy.
Being overweight is one risk factor for developing Type2 Diabetes but it is not the only one; you probably know someone who is not overweight and yet has the disease. Taking in too much carbohydrate is another risk and it is important to know where these carbs come from. Many people know that a 12oz can of regular soda has the same amount of sugar as 10 teaspoons of sugar right out of the packet. But did you know that fruit also contains quite a lot of sugar? There was so much emphasis on the value of fruit and vegetables a few years ago that we all got the idea that we could each as much fruit as we liked – more the better! But this is not the case. Fruit is a great source of important nutrients but we need to limit the intake and balance it with other food sources.
Whether or not you have Type 2 Diabetes you are best off following the same planned and healthy intake of foods and the ADA website is a great place to make a start.
